I adore summer. Things slow down for the better, we take the time to relax a little more and that suits me just fine. So in looking ahead and making summer plans, I also put together a list of the 10 things that are a must-do for my happy summer.
Barbecuing is a great summer tradition — but if not done properly, it can make you sick.
Health Canada estimates there are between 11 million and 13 million cases of food-related illnesses in Canada every year, and the risk of food-borne illnesses increases dramatically during the summer months. Hot, humid weather creates perfect conditions for bacteria such as Salmonella and E.coli to flourish. Add to this the difficulty of refrigerating foods or washing your hands while picnicking or camping, and it’s not hard to understand why food poisoning is a particular risk during barbecue season.

Mommy? Remember the time you forgot to come to my preschool concert? I cried and cried. I was so sad you didn't come." Missing my son's preschool concert might be one of the biggest parenting mistakes I've ever made and not just because I missed him squeakily singing "This Little Light of Mine" with hand actions. No, it's because the gaffe convinced him—and all my other kids—that I can't be trusted to remember important things, so now they remind me of this every five minutes. Oh, and did I mention that the missed concert was four years ago? While it's too late for me, you can save yourself from a bad mom-memory (momery?) with a handy new app. In addition to managing your schedule, our favorite parenting apps do everything short of babysitting your kid. Oh wait—there's an app for that, too. Now if only they'd invent one to erase Mom Guilt...

Next time you don’t want to fork over money to get a common wart removed, consider using duct tape. Already popped two aspirin but can’t get rid of the headache? A pencil could do the trick. We’ve all seen people who are always happy – even amidst agonizing life trials. I’m not saying happy people don’t feel grief, sorrow or sadness; they just don’t let it overtake their life. The following are 21 things happy people make a habit of doing:
1. Appreciate Life
Be thankful that you woke up alive each morning. Develop a childlike sense of wonder towards life. Focus on the beauty of every living thing. Make the most of each day. Don’t take anything for granted. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

It isn’t polite to stare, but get ready for a wave of impoliteness — because with the Royal nuptials just around the corner and the rise of the fascinator in formal wear, it’s impossible to look away.
Modern-day fascinators, embellished hair ornaments adorned to one’s head with either a comb, clip or band have become the go-to celebratory headpiece, with society pages brimming with trendsetters showcasing their attachment to the daring hat alternative. Less fussy than a full-coverage hat, perfect for keeping blowouts voluminous, light and airy for warm summer nights and the ability to transform a simple cocktail dress into a formal stunner — the fascinator is turning heads.

Dr Oz's 5 Simple Ways to Fight Seasonal Allergies
Smart, simple ways to lessen your sniffles and sneezes this spring
Miserable, incurable, and afflicting at least 35 million of us, spring allergies are fast approaching. They kick in when the immune system, mistaking pollens for harmful substances, responds by triggering the release of chemicals including histamines (the source of watery eyes, sneezing fits, and runny noses). On the bright side, an allergic response is the sign of an active immune system, and research has found that allergy sufferers have lower rates of many types of cancers. Still, allergies should be managed—they can lead to sinusitis if left unchecked—so with spring upon us, here's my advice.
From Best Health Magazine:
1. Stretch
Stretch every extremity for 15 seconds. Try this before you open your eyes. Lift your arm and begin by stretching each finger, then your hand, then your wrist, then your arm. Repeat with the other arm. Then your toes, feet, ankles and legs. End with a neck and back stretch that propels you out of bed. You’ve just limbered up your muscles and joints, and enhanced the flow of blood through your body, providing an extra shot of oxygen to all your tissues.

7 tips to raising a happy child
Simple steps to help you raise a secure child
By Randi Chapnik Myers
As a parent, I have become what I call a happy junkie. That’s because nothing brightens my mood faster than my child’s smile. Of course, my kids don’t have to dance all day long to give me that fuzzy feeling. If they throw tantrums now and again, that’s OK ? just as long as I know that deep down, they are content.
So how do you raise happy children? Here are some tips to help you do just that.
Sure, the days are shorter in winter. But to the parent trapped inside from dawn to dusk with a toddler who has enough energy to sustain a small hydroelectric plant, those cold-weather days can seem long indeed. Yes, to occupy your little ones you could help them craft a model of the CN Tower out of used gum wrappers. Or you could steal these real-world, sanity-saving ideas from parents who’ve learned how to keep kids entertained on days too chilly to head outside.

Let's go Glamping!
Putting the GLAM in Camping
The idea of roughing it during a camping trip might sound appealing if it weren't for the bugs, wild animals, sudden storms, leaking tents, smelly sleeping bags and questionable food. For a number of people, their first camping experience often becomes their last, but there is now a camping option growing in popularity. Welcome to the world of glamorous camping, otherwise known as glamping. Organized glamping trips feature all of the exposure to the great outdoors as traditional camping trips, but the amenities found at the campsite far exceed anything most campers have ever experienced.
